Aurita Agushi to Keitel: Do not play in a Serbian propaganda movie
Kosovo well-known actress, Aurita Agushi has penned an open letter to a well-known actor, Harvey Keitel. The letter came after information that the American actor was offered the role of Commander Slobodan Milosevic in a Serbian production film that would tell the story of the so-called "Yellow House".
In her letter, the actress urges Keitel not to accept the role, as it was merely pure Serbian propaganda aimed at hurting an entire people.
"The Albanian people have been victims of the Milosevic regime, also known as the Butcher of the Balkans. Please do not do it, because you will hurt over 13,000 Albanian civilians killed, among them children, young people, pregnant women, and elderly.
“My biggest fear during the war was that I could be raped in front of my father and brothers. Moreover, I was making plans in my head for a quick death so that such a thing would not happen to me," the letter reads, among other things.
Below is Aurita Agushi’s full letter:
Do not play in the "Yellow House" movie, it is a pure Serbian propaganda
Dear Harvey Keitel, I was listening to RTK news tonight, and your name was mentioned for a possible engagement of yours in a Serbian propaganda film, for the so-called non-existent "Yellow House", where Albanians allegedly committed crimes against the Serbian civil population.
The reality is quite different, dear Harvey. The Albanian people have been victims of the Milosevic regime, also known as the Butcher of the Balkans. I know it's not up to me to tell you what to play and not. But this movie is pure Serbian state propaganda.
Dear Harvey, I am an actress myself, and many times you have been an inspiration to me. But please do not do such a thing, because you would hurt an entire nation. You would hurt people who were in danger of ethnic cleansing. Please do not do it, because you will hurt over 13,000 Albanian civilians killed, among them children, young people, pregnant women, and elderly.
You would hurt over 20,000 raped women. You would hurt the 1653 families of missing persons who yet have no tomb to mourn their relatives.
Throughout the war, I was in Kosovo, and you know what was my biggest fear, dear Harvey ?! Not death, because in war human beings could be killed, but my greatest fear was that I may be raped in front of my father and brothers. Moreover, I was making plans in my head for a quick death so that such a thing would not happen to me.
I remind you, dear Harvey, that NATO intervened in 1999 to save a nation from ethnic cleansing so that a second Srebrenica would not take place. So dear Harvey please do not do it, because it does not do you any honor a propaganda film of a regime that made three wars within 10 years in the Balkans leaving hundreds of thousands of graves behind.
Sincerely, Aurita Agushi
Actress from Kosovo
