Salih Mustafa to appear before Specialist Chambers courtroom today

Former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commander, Salih Mustafa, will appear today before a pre-trial judge of the Hague-based Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC) when he will be asked to enter a plea.  

Mustafa appeared for the Initial Appearance hearing on 28 September and according to the Rules of Procedures and Evidence, he has one month to enter a plea.

As announced in the KSC Court Calendar, the further appearance of Salih Mustafa is scheduled for 28 October at 15:00.

During the first part of the hearing, Mustafa will be asked to admit guilt or plead not guilty on the charges brought against him in the confirmed Indictment. The second part of the hearing will serve as a second status conference in this case.

The indictment against Salih Mustafa was confirmed on 12 June 2020. He was arrested by the SPO on 24 September and transferred to the Detention Facilities of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague on the same day.

The indictment charges Salih Mustafa with individual criminal responsibility for Arbitrary Detention, Cruel Treatment, Torture and Murder, war crimes under international law. The public redacted indictment can be read here.
