Mehmeti: Despite challenges, Kosovo is maintaining financial stability

The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, Fehmi Mehmeti, said that the banking sector has been very important in the economic development of Kosovo for more than two decades.

"The last few years have been challenging in many countries of the world as well as in Kosovo. We have successfully passed the Covid-19 pandemic whereas the last crisis due to Russian aggression against Ukraine is being well managed," he said.

According to him, the value of loans in the country has reached 4.2 billion Euros.

 "The banking and financial sector is stable, liquid, and well capitalized. The main challenge in this sector is modern and digital banking", said Governor Mehmeti today on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Kosovo Banks Association (SHBK).

Mehmeti noted that in the new CBK draft law, there will be novelties that will be more efficient and affordable.

Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, and Trade, Rozeta Hajdari, also noted that the banking sector is important for the development of industry in the country.

She expects that there will be more cooperation with the banking sector that will be in the development of Kosovo's economy and industry.

Whereas Petrit Balija, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Banks of Kosovo (ShBK), said that for 20 years SHBK has contributed a lot to the development of the banking sector.

"This is an organization that provides a foundation for the future. SHBK has achieved a lot in 20 years," Balija emphasized, RTKlive reports.

Meanwhile, Albert Lumezi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SHBK, noted that Kosovo has managed to create a good and stable financial and banking system which has contributed to the development of the country. He said that banks in Kosovo have a good business model.

"Banks have also overcome challenges, such as the global crisis, pandemic, etc. The banking sector has been one of the most successful in post-war Kosovo," he said.
