Kurti: ‘Perspective in EU’ not enough, accelerated process is needed

Kosova Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Thursday that the Western Balkans need an accelerated process for membership in the European Union.

In his address at the Socialists and Democrats Western Balkan Leaders Summit in Vienna, Austria, Kurti welcomed the EU’s reconfirmed commitment to the membership of the Western Balkans during the recent summit in Tirana, Albania.

“We need an accelerated process for membership in the European Union, ‘the perspective in the EU’ is not enough. It is difficult to mobilize people if there are no clear timelines toward membership,” Kurti said.

“Now is the time to accelerate the enlargement process, with more initiatives and investments in the region so that the people can benefit”.
