AGK: Attempt to intimidate editor Alban Selimi, disturbing
The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK) reacted on Friday against the setting fire to the house of the investigative journalist of Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK), Alban Selimi, by unknown people.
"AGK was concerned to receive news about the attempted arson on the garage of public broadcaster's editor, Alban Selimi. Yesterday evening, in a Facebook post, Selimi said the act was an attempt to intimidate him adding that nobody could achieve such a goal", said AGK in its reaction.
"Someone set it on fire; to scare me. They won’t achieve their goal!", he wrote, AGK quotes.
"For the Association of Journalists of Kosovo, such threats are completely unacceptable and seriously violate the freedom of expression and affect the work of journalists to report in a safe environment. Therefore, we urgently ask the competent bodies to investigate the motives of this attack, and to bring the perpetrator to justice", AKG says in a press release.
Any attack on journalists, according to this institution, is an attack on public interest, democracy, and the rights of all citizens.
Last night, unknown people tried to set fire to the house of RTK journalist Alban Selimi in Fushë-Kosovë. Thanks to the quick reaction of family members and relatives the fire was extinguished while leaving behind distinct damage to Selimi’s garage.
Law enforcement agencies are investigating the case.
