Lajçak: We were more ambitious, but the Ohrid Agreement is mandatory
EU special representative for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, said that the agreement between Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, and President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, represents a turning point in the process of normalizing relations between the two countries.
In an interview with Radio Free Europe and Euronews Serbia - the first since Kurti and Vucic agreed to implement the EU Agreement, on March 18 in Ohrid - Lajçak underlined that both sides need to implement all the articles of the Agreement towards the normalization of relations.
This means also Article 4, which states that Serbia will not oppose Kosovo's membership in any international organization.
Lajçak emphasized that Kosovo must immediately start implementing the part of the Agreement related to the formation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo. He admitted that the EU had a more ambitious plan: the signing of the Agreement on normalization and a draft annex with clear deadlines and tasks. However, he said that the leaders of the two countries could not agree on all points and that the Serbian president refused to sign the document. Therefore, the proposal has changed.
