Experts in the economy have pointed out to Radio Kosova that the governments that have led Kosovo until now have not done enough to make manufacturing businesses as competitive as possible, which in turn would create new jobs.

They estimate that fiscal policies need to be reviewed and barriers to business development should be eased.

Although Kosovo has created a stable and competitive economy that aligns with EU policies, there is still much to do to enhance competitiveness and create more jobs in the manufacturing sector. Economists Ismet Mulaj and Erton Bega spoke to Radio Kosova regarding this matter.

According to Mulaj, previous governments have done very little to address these issues. Kosovo has policies that are open to other markets, but there are very few policies that stimulate production in Kosovo. Despite various initiatives being launched, they have not been sufficient. Pricing policies, lack of local production, and unfair competition are some of the challenges faced by the manufacturing sector. Mulaj also points out that a large part of Kosovo, especially the northern region, is informal, which makes monitoring difficult.

Similarly, Bega says that the expectations from the current government were greater. He notes that fiscal policies should be eased to facilitate business development, and laws should be enacted to support manufacturing businesses.

Bega suggests that the government should consider tax breaks for new businesses in the production field in the first few years.

The economists estimate that in the absence of strategies to facilitate the creation and development of businesses, most products are imported, which results in high inflation.
