Serbia`s obligations resulting from the agreements reached with Kosovo are now officially part of the European integration process of this country.

The Council of Ministers of the EU, in the meeting being held in Luxembourg, has approved the changes in chapter 35 in the membership negotiations between Brussels and Belgrade.

In the amended text, it is stated that Serbia must implement all the obligations arising from the agreement on the path towards the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, and the implementation annex agreed in March 2023 in Ohrid.

EU spokesperson Peter Stano confirmed and welcomed the adoption of the text at the ministerial meeting, underlining that both Kosovo and Serbia have accepted that their respective obligations arising from the agreement on the road to normalization, will become an integral part of their paths of European integration.

"We welcome today's adoption by the Council of updated interim standards, including the Agreement on Chapter 35 of the accession negotiations for Serbia," Stano said in a written statement sent to the media.

Unlike Serbia, Kosovo does not yet have candidate status for EU membership. Therefore, Kosovo's obligations arising from the dialogue with Serbia will be included in the Special Group for normalization.

According to Stano, the agenda of the next meeting of this group will also be updated.

"We expect both sides to implement the agreement and all other obligations pending the dialogue - as it is essential for their respective European paths," EU spokesman Peter Stano said.
