The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has declared Wednesday, July 3, as a national day of mourning to honor the renowned Albanian writer Ismail Kadare.

The state mourning will coincide with the day of Ismail Kadare's burial, and the State Protocol has been tasked with implementing this decision.

Last year, President Osmani presented Ismail Kadare with the "Hasan Prishtina" Order, one of the highest honors awarded by the Republic of Kosovo to outstanding individuals.

In August, the president issued a decree granting Ismail Kadare citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo.
