LIBE votes for visa liberalization for Kosovo
The Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice, and Internal Affairs of the European Parliament (LIBE) has voted in the second reading on the text of the decision on the liberalization of visas for Kosovo.
In the voted decision, it is recommended that the text be approved by the European Parliament without changes so that the regulation enters into force as soon as possible.
The vote in the LIBE committee now paves the way for the last vote in the decision-making procedure in the plenary session of the European Parliament.
In principle, it is planned that this vote, the last in the procedure, will be held on April 18.
A day later, after the vote in the plenary session, the ceremony of signing the decision between the three European institutions will be organized.
With the publication in the Official Gazette after the signing ceremony, the decision to lift the visa regime comes into force.
According to this decision, Kosovars will enjoy the freedom of movement in parallel with the functionalization of the European ETIAS system, and any case no later than January 1, 2024.
